REPLICA
REPLICA
In the artificial and natural realm of REPLICA, performers Frederique Rodier and Marco Curci (Europe) or James Phillips (N.America) embark on a profound exploration of the history of the replica, delving into the essence of representation of the body through time. This choreographic odyssey unfolds as a captivating archeological performance of movement, inspired as much by ancient, mythological reproductions of the human form as it is by digital self-representations and commercial replications of our environments.
Unfolding within a scenographic garden that unveils the complexities and nuances of the human form, the performance transforms into a living, breathing axis mundi -- a queer garden of Eden—a world within worlds that challenges gendered notions of body; a reflection on utopia and dystopia, and that in between state where the liminal is viscerally represented on stage.
REPLICA becomes a playground that explores the innocence and corruptness woven into the fabric of our collective fascination with the copy. In this immersive experience transforming the stage into a living canvas, the audience is confronted with picturesque states of transformation, mirroring and disturbing a form of sculptural rigor.
A performative journey, REPLICA is influenced by its creation processes in Naples, Sweden, Norway and Montreal; incompatible realities coexist through visceral bodies that question contemporary obsessions with replication.
